Amblyopia is also commonly known as lazy eye and is typically first seen in children. Imperative to catch at an early stage, amblyopia is a condition where vision in one eye is no longer being received by the optic nerve and brain properly. The brain receives the blurred image, ignores the confusing picture and shuts off the eye’s vision.
Symptoms include the following:
- Eyes turning inward or outward
- Poor vision
- Inability to judge depth perception
- Eyes do not work in sync
The eye can sometimes appear normal aside from the vision loss, and can be corrected after a simple eye examination with glasses or the similar surgery for strabismus. Schedule an appointment today if your child is suffering with any of these symptoms.
